VAT Refund
The standard VAT rate in Athens is 24%.
You are eligible for a VAT Refund before leaving Athens if you meet all the following requirements:
- Your permanent residence is outside the European Union.
- You must have all the forms and documents required:
- Passport (If you have an EU passport; other proof of residence outside the EU)
- Boarding pass
- Purchased items
- Purchased invoices
- Tax-Free form (ask for a Tax-Free form in the store)
Procedure of VAT Refund
- Shop at VAT-Eligible Stores
- Look for stores displaying the “Global Blue” or “Planet Tax Free” sign.
- Request a VAT refund form at checkout and keep all the receipts.
- Complete the VAT Refund Form:
- Fill out the form with your details before arriving at the airport.
- Ensure your passport number and departure date are included
- Get Customs Approval:
- At the airport, go to the Customs VAT refund counter before checking in your luggage.
- Show your purchases, receipts, passport, and completed VAT refund form.
- Submit Your Refund Form:
- After security, go to the VAT refund counter.
- Present your stamped VAT form and original receipts.
- Choose to receive your refund in cash or by card.
- Remit Your Refund:
- VAT Refund will be remitted to the address and currency indicated on the form.
