Please ensure your passport has at least 6 months’ validity from the date of return from Malta.
Kindly renew your passport if the validity period falls before 7 October 2025.

VAT Refund

The standard VAT rate in Malta is 18%. 

You are eligible for a VAT Refund before leaving Malta if you meet all the following requirements:

• Your permanent residence is outside the European Union.
• You must have all the forms and documents required:
  • Passport (If you have an EU passport; other proof of residence outside the EU)
  • Boarding pass
  • Purchased items
  • Purchase invoices
  • Tax-Free form (ask for a Tax-Free form in the store or download and print a Tax-Free form from Maltese Customs

Procedure of VAT Refund

1. Shop at VAT-Eligible Store
   • Look for stores displaying the “VAT Refund” sign.
   • Request a VAT refund form at checkout and keep all receipts
2. Complete the VAT Refund Form
   • Fill out the form with your details before arriving at the airport. 
   • Ensure your passport number and departure date are included.
3. Get Customs Approval
   • At the airport, go to the Customs desk between Gate 10 and 11 before checking in your luggage.
   • Show your purchases, receipts, passport, and completed VAT refund form.
   • Customs will stamp your form to confirm eligibility.
4. Submit your Refund Form
   • After security, go to the VAT refund counter.
   • Present your stamped VAT form and original receipts.
   • Choose to receive your refund in cash or by card.
5. Remit your Refund
   • VAT Refund will be remitted to the address and currency indicated on the form.

Note: Ensure that all items are unused to qualify for VAT Refund.
